An efficient method is described for turning a quadtree encoding of an image into scan lines. When implemented in hardware it becomes possible to generate video in real time for a raster display without the need for a conventional frame buffer. This suggests that a new form of display processor could be constructed that operates on coded images instead of rasters and (from previous work) that useful speed improvements might then obtain for certain operations.en_US
